Week 1 Recap

Pack Attack (113.71) vs DaUnderdog (102.85)

Well the AI friend got one right! I handed my own game off in the preview and the pick came back Pack Attack, with the caveat that it all came down to whether the top two guys showed up. One of them did. L Jackson (24.15) was excellent and P Nacua (9.30) was not, and that is pretty much the whole story of a 113.71 that nobody is running to the group chat about. T Lawrence (29.10) was terrific for them and it still was not enough. Pack Attack (1-0) takes the brother battle for the third straight time and the all time series moves to 16-11.

U Don't Know (181.51) vs 16hrs Ahead of You!! (143.56)

Wow! I spent an entire section of the preview explaining how these two were as evenly matched as any game I could remember — tied 10-10 all time, two points apart in scoring average, Yahoo flat out calling it 50/50 — and then U Don't Know (1-0) went out and hung 181.51 on them! That is the highest score in the league this week by 27 points and it lands inside the top 100 single week scores in league history. J Allen (37.21) went nuclear, and I will take my medicine there because I wrote in the preview that I did not love him this week against Houston. A Jeanty (32.05) was every bit as good as I thought he would be, and then T.J. Watt (28.40) went and put up a top fifteen score in the entire league from the defensive player slot! That is 98 points from three guys. The brutal part for 16hrs (0-1) is that 143.56 would have won five of the other six games this week. J Gibbs (36.90) was outstanding and C Williams (33.71) was right there with him. They came in with the #1 overall pick, scored the second most points in the league, and they are 0-1. Rough way to start a year if you are a 16hrs fan!

Big Papa (122.86) vs HHH (121.58)

1.28 points! Yahoo projected this one 0.46 apart and called it 50/50 and I am not sure they have ever been closer to right about anything. And here is the part that stings, because I picked HHH on the strength of that Nabers and Chase group and J Chase went out and scored 2.60. 2.6! That's not going to get it done when in a deep league your start expected to shine bright! Meanwhile I wrote that the receivers were the suspect part of the Big Papa roster and J Coker (31.90) went for nearly 24 points more than he was projected and personally won them the football game. That is week 1 for you. Big Papa (1-0) has now won four straight in this series and it is starting to look like a real thing rather than a run of luck. HHH (0-1) has the better scoring average in the all time series and has now dropped four in a row to this team. Oh and they got the win despite C Loveland putting up a goose egg! That's a solid start for Big Papa.

BIGBOY! (102.06) vs Sportsfreak (61.05)

The Lindgren brother battle opens the season and the little brother wins it again, four straight now. But the number here is 61.05, because that is the lowest Sportsfreak has scored in twenty years! You have to go back to 2006 to find a worse week from this franchise. All that buildup about three Super Bowl losses and no championship and two of those coming against this exact team, and then they put up 61 in the opener!? Come on man! J Daniels (17.35) was their leading scorer, T McLaurin managed 2.70, and O Hampton gave them 6.87 — so the two things I said they needed both came up empty. BIGBOY! (1-0) gets the three-peat bid off the ground, though it is fair to point out they did it with 102.06, the lowest winning score on the board, and they got almost nothing from D London (3.85) or B Mayfield (6.32). J Jefferson (26.60) carried them. They will take it and move on.

Bossman (127.21) vs PackerFANatic7 (95.88)

I wrote in the preview that Bossman was coming off their first missed playoffs since 2018 and that a year on the outside is not something this franchise is used to, and they came out and made the point for me. D Henry (34.55) went for 23 more than projected and that was the game. I also said in the preview that Burrow tends to start slow and he gave them 10.41. They won by 31 anyway. PackerFANatic7 (0-1) had the better of this series coming in at 5-4 and I picked them here on the Prescott and Lamb duo, but when your highest scoring starter is your kicker at 15.80 you are not beating anybody. Young roster, plenty of time, but they need a lot more from the middle of it.

Rapids Plungers (154.91) vs pack slayer (131.55)

Every single year there is a team in this league that scores a pile of points and has nothing at all to show for it, and I wrote in the preview that pack slayer has historically been that team. Week 1 did not waste any time. They got K Walker (37.43), the highest scoring player in the entire league this week, and D Swift (32.77) right behind him. Two of the six best scores in the league on one roster and they still found a way to lose, do they get brownie points for that or something? And then M Stafford, their starting quarterback, scored 1.03 points. One! They put up 131.55, which beats four other teams on this board, and lost by 23. Rapids Plungers (1-0) goes for 154.91 and looks every bit like the team that rode the #1 seed to the Super Bowl last year. C Olave (29.10) delivered exactly the 20 to 25 point day I said was coming. They also pulled the #2 pick in the draft after two decades of drawing the worst slots in the league, and so far that might be a bad thing for the rest of the league.

teamAlaska (123.81) vs Starrfavrerodg (107.06)

In the preview I laid out how Starrfavrerodg had absolutely owned this matchup, winning five of seven and outscoring teamAlaska by better than 26 points a game, and that Yahoo somehow still liked teamAlaska. I said somebody was very wrong and I wanted to find out who. Well, it was the history! teamAlaska (1-0) wins by nearly 17 and it was more comfortable than anything in this series has been in years, and they did it despite D Maye giving them only 6.69. Z Flowers (28.50) led the way. For Starrfavrerodg (0-1), that Packers stack I gave them grief about actually paid off, as C Watson (30.35) was their best player by a mile and beat his projection by better than 20. One week does not undo seven meetings, but it makes the next one a whole lot more interesting.
