Week 2 Recap

HHH (95.98) vs Pack Attack (66.75)

Let's get this over with. 66.75 points. That is the lowest score in the league this week by 16, and it is the worst week Pack Attack (1-1) has had in 57 games — you have to go all the way back to week 5 of 2022 to find a Sunday this bad. The KFFL AI saw it coming too, at 72.8%, while I sat here writing about how twenty years of history was on my side. It was not. The story is P Nacua, who did not play, which left this lineup with L Jackson (10.97) as its leading scorer. Ten points from your best player is not a bad week, it is a fire. And here is the part that actually hurts: the Rams still threw the football on Sunday, D Adams went for 40.35 doing it, and those points landed on DaUnderdog's roster. My brother. In a week where he scored 174.54. Cool. HHH (1-1) takes this series for the fourth straight time and I am not sure I want to talk about it any more than that.

HHH went 4-9 against the field this week and left 60.34 points on their bench. They got by this time but at some point that may come back to bite them!

16hrs Ahead of You!! (122.01) vs BIGBOY! (82.56)

The Game of the Week turned out to be nothing of the sort. 16hrs (1-1) got exactly what they have been owed since opening day, winning by better than 39 and finally converting a good week into an actual W. J Gibbs (18.52) did not even need to hit that 23.58 projection I said might be low, because D Smith (27.45) went and bounced back like I thought he might. B Irving (9.98) held up fine too. The one worry coming out of it is C Williams, who managed 3.56 after his 33 point opener and then pulled up with a hamstring late in the fourth. He may miss a week or two, though in fairness he was not doing much before he got hurt.

For BIGBOY! (1-1) this was a genuinely alarming afternoon. 82.56 points, and they went 1-12 against the field. J Jefferson gave them 5.75 and B Mayfield 9.57, and when your two best names combine for 15 you are not beating anybody. The three-peat chase is now sitting at 1-1 with the 12th most points in the league. Nobody in 22 years has done what they are trying to do and through two weeks they look further away from it than when they started.

Big Papa (94.04) vs Sportsfreak (84.59)

The father and son game, the only matchup all week where the KFFL AI and I disagreed, and I won it. Big Papa (2-0) gets there 94.04 to 84.59 and the KFFL AI had Sportsfreak.

Now, about how it happened. J Daniels put up 12.52 and got hurt just before halftime and never came back, which for a team that was counting on him to make or break the week is about as bad as the luck gets. And it stings twice, because B Young was sitting on the Sportsfreak bench scoring 24.14. They left 65.19 points on that bench altogether, the most of anybody in the league, in a game they lost by nine and a half. That one is going to sting for a bit!

I also need to own something. I wrote that C Loveland would be busy early and have a nice week 2. He scored 1.15. S Barkley, who I said would bounce back, managed 2.15. Big Papa won this game with J Goff (36.01) and almost nothing else, went 3-10 against the field doing it, and is now 2-0 with the fewest points of any winning team in the league. Sportsfreak (0-2) meanwhile has 145.64 points in two weeks and is 2-24 against the field on the season. That is a hole.

U Don't Know (155.43) vs Bossman (133.05)

U Don't Know (2-0) is the real deal so far. 155.43 this week on top of 181.51 last week, J Allen (39.56) going nuclear for the second straight Sunday, A St. Brown (33.10) right behind him. They are 25-1 against the field through two weeks. Twenty five and one! And I went and looked this up because it felt like it had to be historic, and it nearly is. Their 336.94 points is the fifth best two week start in the history of this league out of 312 team seasons, and the last time anybody opened better was Bossman back in 2020, who beat it by four tenths of a point. That is how close U Don't Know is to the best start this league has ever seen.

And yet I feel worse for Bossman (1-1), because 133.05 is a fine week that beats five other teams on this board and they got nothing for it. They went 11-2 against the field and lost. J Smith-Njigba went for 44.75, the highest individual score in the entire league this week, and it did not matter even slightly. They also left 54.65 on the bench, so there was a version of this where it could have gotten interesting.

DaUnderdog (174.54) vs Rapids Plungers (101.63)

The biggest beating of the week by 33 points. DaUnderdog (1-1) went 13-0 against the field and scored more than anybody, and they did it largely with D Adams (40.35), which as covered above I have some feelings about. C McCaffrey (19.68) did his part and B Bowers stayed on the bench with his zero which is noteworthy that DaUnderdog is scoring like this without one of their better players even seeing a snap yet this season.

Both the KFFL AI and I had Rapids Plungers (1-1) here and both of us were wrong by 73 points, which is quite an achievement. B Robinson (8.25) was the problem, the #2 overall pick going for eight in a week they needed a lot more. They also started Q Johnston (1.82) while T Tucker (21.95) sat, though when you lose by 73 the lineup you put out there is not really the issue.

Starrfavrerodg (125.39) vs pack slayer (107.27)

So here is a fun one. M Stafford, who scored 1.03 points in week 1 and who I spent a paragraph worrying about in the preview, went out and put up 33.47. And pack slayer (0-2) lost anyway! They have now scored 238.82 points in two weeks, the fifth most in the league, and they have zero wins to show for it. I said in the week 1 recap that every year there is a team like this and that pack slayer has historically been that team. Two weeks in and they are running away with the title.

It did not help that DJ Moore got hurt reaching for a touchdown before halftime and never came back, finishing at negative 0.07, which is a genuinely cruel way to lose a player. N Collins sitting on the bench didn't help this one either. Starrfavrerodg (1-1) takes it behind J Cook III (21.20), and that Packers stack I keep needling them about produced a perfectly ordinary 22.80 between the three of them. Both the KFFL AI and I had pack slayer in this one. Neither of us learns.

PackerFANatic7 (122.66) vs teamAlaska (96.93)

PackerFANatic7 (1-1) needed this one and got it in the most predictable way available. The Dallas stack I pointed at in the preview delivered exactly what it was supposed to, with C Lamb (37.65) and D Prescott (31.31) combining for nearly 69 points between them. That is how you build a week.

teamAlaska (1-1) was without Z Flowers, who sat due to injury and the way he played in week 1 that was a big blow. I mentioned in the preview that I expected J Price would have a really strong week, and then he got hurt in the second half and finished with 2.87. So that is two teams this week that lost a starter at the break and a third that lost one after it. Both of us had PackerFANatic7 here and for once the obvious answer was the right one.

Odds and Ends

The all-play table is getting loud. U Don't Know is 25-1 against the field through two weeks and it is not close. At the other end, Sportsfreak is 2-24 and Pack Attack is 5-21, which is a sentence I did not enjoy typing. This week alone Bossman went 11-2 and lost, while Big Papa went 3-10 and won. Football.

Points left on benches. Sportsfreak led everyone with 65.19 sitting there, including the 24.14 from B Young while their starting quarterback got hurt. HHH left 60.34 and won anyway. DaUnderdog left 3.65 and scored 174. There is a lesson in there somewhere.

Playoff odds after two weeks. U Don't Know is up to 77.4%, DaUnderdog 66.8%, Rapids Plungers 59.6%. At the bottom it is pack slayer at 17.3% and Sportsfreak at 10.4%, which for a team with a 0-2 record and 145 points is about right. Pack Attack sits at 48.6% and I have no idea whether to be encouraged or insulted by that.

And the ledger. I went 4-2 this week, the KFFL AI went 4-3, and the one game we split was the father and son game, which I won. Two weeks in it is me 7-5 and the KFFL AI 7-7. I would like the record to show that I am beating the computer.
