Week 3 Recap

Rapids Plungers (139.71) vs Pack Attack (106.00)

P Nacua did not play. Again. And so for the second week in a row this lineup went out there missing the one player it is built around, except this time there was a twist, because Bijan Robinson (37.88) spent Thursday night running wild all over my favorite team! That is a special kind of Thursday. Watch your favorite team get gashed and know that every single yard is also beating you in fantasy.

The tight ends deserve their own sentence. Pack Attack started two of them, E Engram (0.00) and P Freiermuth (3.57) combined for 3.57 points between the two of them and Rapids Plungers TE followed suit by failing to register a single point! Three roster spots, one position, three and a half points. Fun times! M Golden (21.00) was actually terrific and L Jackson (19.05) and J Love (17.95) both did their jobs, so this was not a 66-point disaster like last week. It was just not enough, because Rapids Plungers (2-1) also got B Purdy (32.21) and C Olave (19.35) and won this comfortably.

Pack Attack (1-2) also left 47.22 on the bench, the second most in the league, including W Robinson (15.85) sitting while J Williams (6.45) started. Add that one back and it is a different afternoon... not really! This team needs Nacua back in the worst way!

16hrs Ahead of You!! (135.22) vs Big Papa (106.61)

Here is my favorite thing that happened in the entire league this week. 16hrs (2-1) won the Game of the Week by 28 points while starting D Lock (0.00) at quarterback. He did not play! They did not have a quarterback! And they won anyway, and it was not particularly close. Either that is supreme confidence in the rest of the roster or a lineup that never got set, and I honestly do not care which, because the result is that Big Papa (2-1) lost to a team that scored nothing from the most important position on the field. That is going to sting for a while.

J Gibbs (34.85) did most of it, with W Anderson Jr. (22.20) and M Wilson (21.45) chipping in, and W Reichard (17.30) had one of those kicker weeks that quietly decides games. I should also own two misses from my own preview, because I said the D Kincaid breakout might finally be here and he put up 1.90, and I said the B Irving resurgence was the real story and he managed 5.67. You can't get them all right!?

Big Papa got J Meyers (16.55) and H Mevis (17.90) and a 14-point week from the Broncos defense and still could not get there. Their 2-0 start has turned into 2-1 and the underlying numbers have been screaming about this for two weeks. They are now 15-24 against the field on the season.

Bossman (157.74) vs BIGBOY! (109.35)

Let's talk about the three-peat, because it is now in real trouble. BIGBOY! (1-2) actually played fine here. D London (29.30) was excellent and G Wilson (26.35) went for 26 against Detroit exactly like I said he would, which happens roughly once a season so let me enjoy it. The problem is J Jefferson (3.60). Three points from one of the best receivers in football, in a week they needed everything, against a Bossman team that was never going to be caught anyway.

Because Bossman (2-1) is playing the best football in this league right now and it is not especially close. J Smith-Njigba (33.68) has been outstanding all season and this was his third straight big one. Add J Burrow (22.51), H Fannin Jr. (21.55), D Henry (18.93) and K Allen (15.15) and you get 157.74 and a 12-1 record against the field. Season to date they are 32-7 against the league, the best mark anybody has, and they are 70.4% to make the playoffs.

Nobody in twenty-two seasons has won three championships in a row. BIGBOY! is 1-2 with the third fewest points in the league and 9-30 against the field. Although before anybody buries them, remember they started 0-3 in 2024 and won the whole thing.

DaUnderdog (176.14) vs Starrfavrerodg (103.18)

Domination! 176.14, the highest score in the league for the second week running, a 13-0 record against the field, and a 72-point win. And here is the number that should scare everybody: ten of their eleven starters scored in double figures. Ten! The only one who did not was S Diggs (5.65). That is not a hot week, that is a roster that is working everywhere at once.

B Bowers (26.80) came back and led the team, which even though I knew it would help this team and I mentioned it in the preview I didn't quite expect that type output in his first game back. I did pick Starrfavrerodg. So I got the analysis right and the pick perfectly wrong, by 72.96 points, in the only game all week where the KFFL AI and I disagreed. It took DaUnderdog and I did not!

D Adams (18.85) went for another big one, C McCaffrey (17.05) and T Higgins (16.50) were solid, and B Nix (24.19) had his best week of the year. Starrfavrerodg (1-2) got J Cook III (24.27) and C Watson (17.80) like I thought they would, but J Hurts (8.73) and T Kraft (5.30) did not show up and you cannot win a shootout without a quarterback. DaUnderdog is now up to 85.8% to make the playoffs, the highest in the league.

HHH (109.78) vs Sportsfreak (64.32)

I need to be honest about Sportsfreak (0-3) because the numbers have gone past bad and into historic. They have 209.96 points through three weeks. That is the worst three-week start in their twenty-three seasons in this league by eighty-four points — their previous worst was 293.98 back in 2006 — and the third worst three-week start by anybody in the entire 312 team-seasons this league has recorded. They are 3-36 against the field. Their playoff odds are 2.9%.

This week they had exactly one player score more than ten points, T McLaurin (15.85), and their defense, the Packers, scored negative two. Teams that start 0-3 in this league have made the playoffs six times out of forty, so there is a path, it is just very narrow and it needs to start immediately.

HHH (2-1) did what they needed to. J Love (21.24) keeps producing even while the Packers themselves look shaky, which is a nice trick, and J Chase (19.90) was steady. They only scored 109.78 and went 7-6 against the field, so this was not a statement, but at 2-1 through three weeks they will take it.

pack slayer (142.94) vs PackerFANatic7 (117.26)

Finally! After two weeks of scoring a pile of points and losing anyway, pack slayer (1-2) got their win, and they did it with 142.94 and an 11-2 record against the field. J Johnson (27.25) was the surprise, M Stafford (21.67) has now bounced back completely from that 1.03 point opener, and K Walker III (18.82) did not even need to go off for 40 like I thought he might.

But the story here is grim. D Achane (1.13) went down with a torn ACL and is finished for the season. PackerFANatic7 (1-2) spent a premium pick on him and now has to replace a every-week starter off the waiver wire or by talking somebody into a trade, and good luck with that in a fourteen-team league in week four.

They also had the worst start/sit call in the league, leaving K Sadiq (23.25) on the bench while M Andrews (4.20) started at tight end, a 19-point miss in a game they lost by 25.68. Now I don't think anyone would blame them for making that call this week and the good news is that Sadiq looked awesome! C Lamb (19.60) and J Warren (18.92) were fine. It just was not their week!

U Don't Know (97.28) vs teamAlaska (58.69)

U Don't Know (3-0) is the only undefeated team left and they got there this week with 97.28 points and a 2-11 record against the field. Lucky or good? This week, lucky, and it is not close — eleven of the thirteen other teams would have beaten them. But they have also scored 434.22 on the season and been genuinely excellent for two of the three weeks, so the honest answer is that they are a very good team that just had their worst week and happened to draw the one opponent who could not punish them for it.

Because teamAlaska (1-2) was a catastrophe. 58.69 points, the lowest score by anybody in this league all season, and a 0-13 week against the field. D Maye (-0.22) scored negative points. Four of their starters failed to reach two points and three of those could not even manage one — J Price (0.35), the Eagles defense (0.00) and D Maye. Z Flowers (10.53) did come back and play, which I said in the preview I did not expect, and it made no difference whatsoever. With A.J. Brown still out this roster is being held together with tape and their playoff odds are down to 13.2%.

Odds and Ends

The all-play table is telling a different story than the standings. Bossman is 32-7 against the field and sitting 2-1. U Don't Know is 3-0 and 27-12. Meanwhile pack slayer is 28-11 against the field with a 1-2 record, which is the archetype in its purest form. At the bottom, Sportsfreak is 3-36 and Pack Attack and BIGBOY! are both 9-30, a sentence I enjoyed typing even less than last week's.

Benches. DaUnderdog left 47.96 sitting there and scored 176 anyway. Pack Attack left 47.22 and scored 106. PackerFANatic7's 19-point tight end miss was the single worst call in the league. pack slayer left 9.23 — the tidiest lineup of the week, and they won.

Playoff odds after three weeks. DaUnderdog 85.8%, U Don't Know 76.1%, Rapids Plungers 72.1%, Bossman 70.4%. At the bottom it is teamAlaska at 13.2% and Sportsfreak at 2.9%. Pack Attack has slid to 35.1%, which is roughly what 1-2 with the league's third fewest points deserves.

And the ledger. I went 4-2 this week and the KFFL AI went 5-2. The one game we disagreed on was DaUnderdog and Starrfavrerodg, and it took DaUnderdog, and DaUnderdog won by 72.96. So that is that. Three weeks in it is the KFFL AI 12-9 and me 11-7. The computer has drawn level!
